What is Quality Management in SAP S 4/HANA?

Quality Management (QM) is a module of the SAP S/4HANA cloud system whose purpose is to help companies implement, organize, and execute processes related to quality control. It is designed to prevent and reduce defects in production processes and any errors in the implementation of logistics activities. It is also intended to enable continuous process improvement and help create reliable, up-to-date quality control programs.

Functionality of the Quality Management module

The capabilities of this solution allow you to implement the key elements of quality management that ensure compliance with standards, including ISO 9000.

The Quality Management module can be integrated with other SAP modules, such as: Materials Management, Plant Maintenance, Production Planning, Sales and Distribution, Finance, Controlling and Human Resources. This combination allows QM tasks to be included in commands within these integrated application components.

An extremely important feature of the module is the segmentation option. This functionality will be useful, for example, in the case of fashion or vertical industries (on the manufacturer-distributor-seller line). The SAP S/4HANA system with the QM module supports the integration of segmentation with quality management during the ongoing production process. Quality can be managed at the segmentation level. The tool’s features allow you to separate and group materials based on their quality.

The segmentation function in QM allows you to:

  • determine the accuracy of QM for segmentation features,
  • integrate segmentation into control plans, so that some of them can be limited only to specific segmentation values,
  • enable segmentation in inspection batches,
  • determine an appropriate inspection plan based on segmentation values,
  • increase the segmentation value in the quality certificate and quality control report,
  • streamline inspection lot selection transactions with general articles and segmentation,
  • using segmentation in batches when making usage decisions,
  • expanding SAP GUI transactions in QM with segmentation,
  • assign inspection types based on combinations of material and segment values, i.e. assign inspection types at the segment level so that inspections can be managed on the basis of segments.
