PLAY is a leading mobile network operator in Poland. PLAY’s strategy assumes continuous development of the SAP environment. The company started considering SAP system migration to the modern, highly efficient SAP HANA database and the implementation of a Fiori application to further improve the quality of its system. In order to determine the business value of these solutions for Play, a decision was made to prepare a Proof of Concept. The project was carried out by Hicron.

The SAP system upgrade project at Play, divided into two phases, included migration of the system to a more efficient platform and technical upgrade of SAP ERP and Enterprise Portal. The system upgrade improved the efficiency of transactions and reporting, while increasing the possibilities for further functional development of the system.

Proof of Concept - HANA and Fori

The proof of concept for migration to SAP HANA and implementation of a Fiori application at Play was carried out very efficiently, thanks to the huge commitment of the entire project team on the part of Play and our technological partner – Lenovo. Verification of the migration path in a copy of the SAP production environment at Play allowed us to accurately schedule the planned work by reflecting the time and quality of work

At the Proof of Concept stage at Play, the SAP HANA and SAP Fiori solutions were new products in SAP’s offer and were enjoying great popularity. In order to best match these tools to the needs of Play, Hicron consultants prepared a Proof of Concept for these solutions: SAP Fiori and HANA Migration, which enabled end users to thoroughly test the configurations proposed by Hicron and make the necessary corrections before final implementation.

SAP upgrade

The project works consisted in exporting the system to a new platform and performing the necessary steps to upgrade the SAP ECC system version from ECC 5 to ECC 6.05, EP from version 7.0 to 7.01, Solution Manager from version 7.0 to version 7.01, as well as upgrading the XI and BW solutions. The first part of the works – migration of the solution to the new platform – was completed in the fourth quarter of 2011. During the second stage of the project, the task of Hicron consultants was to move the system to the new version, perform tests, and provide post-implementation support. This stage ended in June 2012.

Timely upgrade of the SAP system and constant care for current system version updates guarantee the continuity of support provided by the software producer. This approach enables the organization and optimization of all business processes in the system, supported by the latest achievements in the field of ERP system development.

The SAP solutions that we use daily are extremely extensive and in no way resemble standard applications. When choosing a partner to implement the upgrade, we primarily wanted to cooperate with a company with a large base of consultants-developers with experience in designing and developing complex, dedicated applications. The scope of the services provided was also important. Taking into account all these elements, Hicron proved second to none, and the wide range of services provided by the company serves as a basis for longer cooperation.
