The cloud trend is here to stay, and SAP knows how to use it to make SAP systems more efficient and easy to extend.
On TechEd 2020 we saw the company presented a solution that will secure your investments in custom ABAP applications and extension made for your on-premise system and making them future-proof. This solution is the newest version of SAP Cloud Platform, ABAP Environment, known internally as Steampunk.
Ensuring the future for your applications
Steampunk is a PaaS, platform as a service, providing an ABAP programming environment. It was initially shipped in 2018. With the platform, developers can create applications to extend SAP products, such as SAP S/4 HANA on Cloud or SAP SuccessFactors, but also on-premise solutions.
When using SAP Cloud Platform ABAP Environment, developers work with the newest version of the stack, also used in other cloud solutions. What does it mean? Most importantly, access to great tools like ABAP RESTful Programming Model and ABAP development tools in Eclipse. There are a lot of editors integrated natively into Eclipse. It creates a developer-friendly environment and lets creating and integrating solutions with the systems more efficiently.
An important change that comes with the 2011 version is that now you can host multiple tenants within a single steampunk instance. It reduces TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) for any ABAP deployment.
Change for your benefit
Our clients can benefit from the Steampunk by, for example, carrying existing application developed for on-premise system to its cloud-based version, or by reducing costs of the development of a new extension. At Hicron, we pay attention to trends and news in our industry, and we cannot wait to see how these changes will help us support you even more efficiently.
